THE SELF-PROTECTOR

YOUR MOVEMENT & AFFIRMATION

Making a motion as if you’re taking off layers of armor from your body, say the following out loud:

“The trauma I experienced is valid and it makes me who I am today, but now I must be able to let go of old pain in order to live the life I truly desire.”

Video demonstration of your movement affirmation.

THE SELF-PROTECTOR DILEMMA

You’re not broken. You’re overprotective.

Your body and nervous system are so smart. They’re currently doing exactly what they’ve been hardwired to do: keep you safe and protected from more pain, especially as you try to break free from the past.

Even though you’re so determined to heal, and your mind says you’re ready, your nervous system keeps you stuck in your “comfort zone” of misery.

See, the term “comfort zone” is tricky because you’re not happy in this place, but your survival system feels SAFE being here.

It’s the same as someone choosing to stay home & alone every day, turning down opportunities to go out and socialize. Even though they’re depressed and lonely, they can’t bring themselves to face the potential danger out in the world.

Scientifically speaking: your body and nervous system are so scared of getting out of overprotection mode, that your current misery seems less scary than any unknown (even if that unknown is happy, healthy love).

THE GOOD NEWS?

Your Self-Protector archetype does not define you. Your archetype reflects your current neurophysiological state, which can be rewired.

You are 100% capable of healing simply because you’re a human being with a brain and nervous system that is capable of forming new, healthier neural pathways.

And while you ARE a unique human, you are NOT a special form of damaged goods that makes you any less capable of healing, neurophysiologically-speaking.

This is not just my belief, this is SCIENCE.

This is so exciting! You already have the resources within you to heal, live the life you desire, and let in the healthy lasting love you totally deserve.

You just need to break out of your repeated healing cycles that are making you feel exhausted, hopeless, desperate, and impulsive.

This is so exciting! You already have the resources within you to heal, live the life you desire, and let in the healthy lasting love you totally deserve.

You just need to break out of your repeated healing cycles that are making you feel exhausted, hopeless, desperate, and impulsive.

Your repeated healing cycles may sound something like this:

“Just when I think things are getting better, it all goes to sh*t.”

“If she can heal, maybe I can too… Ugh, nvm, why is everyone happy but ME?!”

“Why can’t I FEEL it? … Wait, OMG I think I’m feeling it! … “Nope. It was too good to be true.”

THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT!

You have a deep belief that you can’t be healed, which is the biggest roadblock keeping you from healing. This is a common self-fulfilling prophecy that happens because of unresolved trauma.

Because you believe there’s something inherently wrong with you, you prevent yourself from the REAL help you need… even if you’ve paid for plenty of help before!

You’re not doing this on purpose. This is a subconscious behavior that makes you feel numb and hopeless.

Whenever you get close to having insight, your mind gets foggy and you suddenly forget what you were thinking about it.

This is the catch-22 of trying to heal trauma.

Your nervous system and body are protecting you so HARD from feeling any remnant of pain that you dissociate or go blank when you’re close to feeling anything.

Fortunately, you don’t have to remember many details or have a ridiculous amount of intellectual awareness to heal your trauma. But it is necessary to have some cognitive foundation of understanding if you want the final stage of your healing to be fast and complete.

THE PROOF IS IN THE SCIENCE

Let’s talk about science-backed reasons why it is NOT your fault you that haven’t healed yet, even if you’ve already made a strong effort to do so.

Put more bluntly? You’re probably making it personal when it’s not.

The top 6 reasons why most people with trauma think they should already be healed AND exactly the same reasons why they’re not.

These are all evidenced by the top experts in the fields of trauma & psychiatry. You can geek out with me on all six, or choose the one(s) that apply to you:

These are all evidenced by the top experts in the fields of trauma & psychiatry. You can geek out with me on all six, or choose the one(s) that apply to you:

REASON #1: You’ve tried talk therapy, couples counseling, mindset / cognitive work.

Brain imaging and research shows that these traditional approaches don’t access implicit trauma memories that are stored in the non-verbal brain and body (Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps The Score).

Brain imaging and research shows that these traditional approaches don’t access implicit trauma memories that are stored in the non-verbal brain and body (Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps The Score).

REASON #2: You’ve felt big physical releases before through running, exercise, screaming, pillow-punching and Tik-Tok dancing (no, seriously 😂).

These intense physical “releases” reinforce unhealthy cycles of Parasympathetic and Sympathetic state-shifting in the nervous system and your body (Stephen Porges, The Polyvagal Theory).

These intense physical “releases” reinforce unhealthy cycles of Parasympathetic and Sympathetic state-shifting in the nervous system and your body (Stephen Porges, The Polyvagal Theory).

REASON #3: You’ve done DIY online courses, read books, researched articles, listened to podcasts, etc.

Learn all the information you want, but if you’re not activating your social engagement system in the brain & body, you’re not rewiring (Stephen Porges, The Polyvagal Theory).

REASON #4: You regularly practice meditation, yoga, and nervous system regulation “hacks.”

While these can be helpful as daily habits, they are often used as blanket prescriptions that aren’t individualized to meet the complex needs of your Window Of Tolerance, which is necessary for lasting healing (Dan Siegel, UCLA – Psychiatry).

REASON #5: You’ve tried alternative approaches, such as EMDR, energy healings, and Somatic Experiencing.

Some people have felt incredible progress with these modalities. Others have felt even worse. Nevertheless, they still don’t include a specific movement approach that breaks trauma-driven patterns from the physical body (Bruce Perry, Neurosequential Model).

REASON #6: You’ve taken meds for your “chemical imbalance.”

The “chemical imbalance” theory is a myth for most mental health issues & diagnoses. Meds won’t resolve underlying trauma and many of them aren’t effective for long-term use (Dr. Kelly Brogan, Own Your Body. Free Your Mind).

Hot damn, can you believe all the science backing up why the most popular and trending methodologies don’t work?

This confirms it: You are NOT broken!

YOUR *UPGRADED* MOVEMENT & AFFIRMATION:

Take a deep breath and make one point of physical contact with yourself. For instance, you can put your hand on your heart or give yourself a hug.

Staying in this position, say out loud:

“I now understand that it was never my fault or a reflection of me for being stuck in my past trauma. I am fully capable of healing in a way that lasts and makes me feel complete.”

Yo, Self-Protector – This was never a YOU problem!

This has been a methodology problem.

I believe a deeper part of you already knows that, which is why the universe brought us together!

But first, I want to be honest with you…

While everything I’ve shared with you so far IS true and based on evidence, your self-assessment score reveals that you still have quite a few more steps to take before your body and nervous system are FULLY ready to heal in a way that is complete and lasts.

The next step? You need to start believing in yourself and your human ability to heal.

I’m not talking about convincing your mind or repeating affirmations about how worthy you are. Those don’t work if your body is frozen or guarded.

Your entire body needs to have some foundation of hope and belief that YOU are worth it and that it is possible for you.

I know that there are no words I can say to make you believe that. If words worked, you would’ve already believed it.

Instead, I’ll offer you a movement-based meditation to start feeling something. Because the quickest way to make a shift in your beliefs and thoughts is through your body and movement.

Click here to try my popular “Healing Abandonment Wounds” meditation now, and see if you can grasp a sense of what it would be like to truly heal from your past.
